Professional Biography
James J. Mulick, Ph. D.
President
Dr. Mulick is the founder and president of Ameridan, LLC. He is a leading advisor to privately-held companies, public corporations and private equity groups.
Prior to the founding of Ameridan in August of 1998, Dr. Mulick was an executive with PNC Financial Services Group, one of the Country's top bank holding companies. During his fourteen years at PNC, he held a variety of positions, the most recent of which was Vice President and Director in the Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory Group for PNC Capital Markets, the investment banking subsidiary of PNC. His responsibilities included business sale advisory, acquisition advisory, and management buyouts.
Dr. Mulick was also Vice President in the Strategic Planning Group of PNC's holding company where his responsibilities included identifying acquisition candidates, assessing strategic fit with existing business units, valuation and dilution analysis, due-diligence, and working with line management to evaluate cost savings and revenue enhancements. He evaluated hundreds of acquisition candidates, and completed many transactions, which in total, exceeded $5.7 billion in total consideration paid.
Over the course of his career at PNC, Dr. Mulick also had responsibility for several corporate-level initiatives:
- Developed a shareholder value-based approach to assessing alternative strategies, value lines of business, and evaluate acquisitions/divestitures;
- Worked with the chief executive, business unit management, and outside consultants to develop and implement strategic plans;
- Managed the country risk group, which was responsible for assessing risks and opportunities internationally. In this role, he traveled widely in Europe and Asia.
Early in his career, Dr. Mulick developed a keen interest in corporate strategy formulation and execution. While at PNC he undertook doctoral studies at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh, under the direction of John Prescott, Ph.D., the country's foremost expert in competitive intelligence. He completed the program in 1993, earning a Ph.D. in business strategy, with a minor in finance. He also holds an MA in economics and a BA in psychology, both from The Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Mulick has also attended executive education at the Darden Graduate School of Business and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma.
